The House Hours.

Every rhythm the house keeps, published in one place. These are the house’s own hours — not member statistics. Member rhythms, when they come, will follow the rule at the foot of this page.

One clock, one home

The house keeps India time wherever a member happens to be. One clock for every rung, bell and vault, so that a story read in Kolkata and a story read in Toronto arrive in the same house, at the same hour. The mood line on the home page reads this clock, and the page’s own tint follows it.

The table of hours

  • 04:00 — the Ivory Ladder turns to a new day; twelve rungs begin lighting, bottom to top.
  • Every day — fifteen places on the Private Line, never more than forty; held drafts wait until the writer sends them.
  • 24:00 — the Vault closes its day; what is kept inside is kept for ten days.
  • Every 202 days — the bell ring walks once; fourteen bells fall in order, listed in the Bell Calendar.
  • Every Sunday — a new Sunday Question opens in the app and in the journal; the finest consented line returns the next week.
  • Every week — one new note in the journal, linked to the house guide, the pillar page.
  • 750 characters — the length of one Private Line; long enough to be true, short enough to be kind.

What the house will publish, and how

Once the app is live, the house will publish one anonymised rhythm each quarter — “when India writes”, the hour-by-hour shape of reading and writing across the membership. The rule is fixed now, before any number exists:

  • Only aggregates, never individuals; no story, no name, no session.
  • No cell smaller than twenty members is ever shown.
  • Every member is opted out at birth of the house and may opt in by choice; the default stays out.
  • Each quarterly table is dated, versioned and kept — the house does not quietly rewrite its own history.

Until then, this page is the house’s only data publication: its own hours, which belong to no one but the house.

Why publish hours at all?

Because a house that keeps time openly is a house that can be trusted with time’s contents. Rhythms are the smallest true thing a platform can show. Everything else — the consent rules, the safety walls, the deletion room — is written in the guide and in the legal rooms below.
